| Abstract | Mali, a landlocked country in West Africa, faces challenges of soil degradation, declining fertility, and low crop yields due to overexploitation of production systems. This report highlights the importance of managing soil fertility through fallows and using inputs like organic matter and mineral fertilizers. However, rising fertilizer prices and limited availability have posed additional challenges to the agricultural sector. IFDC is implementing three projects in Mali: the Integrated Seed Sector Development in the Sahel (ISSD-Sahel) project, the 2SCALE program, and the Activité Production Agricole Sud du Mali (APSA) project. ISSD-Sahel aims to establish a commercially viable and self-sustaining seed sector, ensuring the availability and use of high-quality seeds. The 2SCALE program contributes to food security, economic growth, and stability through public-private partnerships in the agricultural sector. APSA focuses on scaling up the productivity of key value chains, improving food consumption, and enhancing the resilience of farm households through climate-smart agriculture technologies. IFDC's interventions align with Mali's agricultural policy to enhance producers' incomes, ensure food security, and promote long-term, sustainable agricultural development based on family farms. These interventions support the strategic orientations of Mali's Agricultural Development Policy (PDA) and its priority programs. The report discusses the achievements, investments, and prospects of IFDC's interventions in Mali. With over 20 years of existence in the country, IFDC has contributed to rural development by empowering smallholder farmers to become agricultural entrepreneurs engaged in local and regional trade. Recent interventions have focused on leveraging digital technologies to provide farmers with market information, weather forecasts, pest forecasts, and crop management advice. | |
