Nutrient Management in Crops: Importance and Judicious & Balanced Use of Fertilizers Through 4R Principles

Abstract
Effective nutrient management in crop production maximizes yields while minimizing negative environmental impacts. This publication focuses on the importance of judicious and balanced fertilizer use through the 4R principles (Right Source, Right Rate, Right Time, Right Place) implemented by the APART project in Assam under the guidance of the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC). The material provides an overview of plant nutrients, the significance of nutrient management in crops, and the potential risks associated with inadequate or excessive fertilizer application. It emphasizes the need for nutrient management planning. It highlights the benefits of adopting the 4R principles in agricultural practices, such as improved productivity, enhanced profitability for farmers, environmental protection, and sustainable agriculture. By following these principles, farmers can optimize nutrient use, increase crop yields, reduce environmental pollution, and promote long-term agricultural sustainability
