AbstractThis article explores the challenges and opportunities in promoting sustainable agricultural development in Sub-Saharan Africa through increased investments in research and development (R&D). It discusses the role of public and private sectors in driving agricultural innovation and examines the state of agricultural R&D in the region. Additionally, the article highlights the need for private sector engagement in agricultural R&D and the constraints hindering their participation. The analysis emphasizes the importance of creating an enabling environment for private sector investment in research and technology to enhance agricultural productivity and address food security challenges in the region.
